 Trade Campaigns
Trade and Climate Change
In our busy world, we rarely have time to reflect on the farmer who grew the coffee beans we roast or the factory workers who assembled our computers we sit in front of. Even more rarely do we have time to consider that these products are grown and made in countries with few labor and environmental regulations and therefore contribute to deforestation, pollution and human rights problems. See what the Sierra Club is doing to combat environmental costs caused by globalization. Find out more.
Trade Reform, Accountability, Development and Employment (TRADE) Act
The Sierra Club applauds the proposed Trade Reform, Accountability, Development and Employment Act (or TRADE) which calls for a review of current international trade agreements like NAFTA, sets terms for future agreements and reestablishes Congress's role in determining trade agreements by abolishing Fast Track. First introduced June 4, 2008, this piece of legislation is still up for debate.
The U.S. Lacey Act
Legislation on timber imports has finally been incorporated into the ongoing Lacey Act of 1900 in order to ban illegally harvested wood products. This ban would help the fight against deforestation and global warming. The Legal Timber Protection Act was incorporated in the 2008 Farm Bill by Congress. Find out more. >
