Responsible Trade
Trade and the Environment

Exotic pests are sneaking into the US through "streamlined" (or nonexistent) inspections, and wreaking havoc with vulnerable ecosystems. Raw logs (and millworker jobs) are exported from our national forests in the name of liberalized trade. Unsafe fruit and vegetables are sickening our children. Multinational corporations are suing to overturn our hard-won environmental safeguards. Protections for endangered sea turtles are ruled as "trade barriers" by WTO panels meeting in secret.

These are some of the consequences of our "race to the bottom" global trade framework. They all add up to one thing -- multinational corporations prospering at the expense of our environment.
