Placing a letter to the editor is a great way to spread the word on the FTAA. Elected officials watch these letters closely as a sign of public opinion.
Dear Editor:
Trade deals such as NAFTA are placing our health and the environment at risk to promote the interests of global corporations. NAFTA contains dangerous anti-environmental provisions that allow corporate investors to sue governments for implementing environmental laws. These NAFTA lawsuits could undermine our hard-won environmental laws and cost taxpayers billions of dollars.
Here in [NAME OF YOUR STATE], we worked hard to pass [NAME OF ENVIRONMENTAL LAW]. I don't want that law challenged by some global corporation under some trade deal.
Now President Bush wants to expand NAFTA on a fast track to the entire Western Hemisphere through a trade deal called the Free Trade Area of the Americas. Instead, I think we need a "Fair Trade Bill of Rights" to make trade clean, green, and fair.
Sincerely,
[your name & address here]
