Tatoosh Group Current Issues - Get Involved!

Preservation and Protection of Marine Shorelines:

The Marine Ecosystems Team is leading the effort to protect our marine shorelines and intertidal zones from unregulated and potentially destructive aquaculture development.  They are working on national initiatives as well as county and state in support of sustainable marine habitats.

They are working on restricting the use of pesticides and plastics in our marine waters and beaches.  They are working to ensure the Shoreline Master Plan includes adequate protections for our shorelines and marine life.

Should the Use of Plastic Bags be Ban or Restricted in Your Community?

The Sierra Club Tatoosh Group is encouraging the City of Tacoma to adopt an ordinance limiting the use of plastic bags for certain uses, such as for grocery take-out. The cities of Bellingham, Edmonds, Mukilteo and Seattle have adopted such ordinances. The City of Bainbridge Island and even the State Legislature are considering passing such ordinances. If you would be interested in exploring the promotion of such a "plastic bag" ordinance or bag restriction campaign in your community, please contact Bliss Moore (blissmoore2004@yahoo.com).
