Outings for the 2021 Season are in the planning stage.  Thank you for your interest!

Glacier Basin, MRNP -  Round trip 6 miles,  elevation gain 1704’

I love this hike because it is beautiful.  The trail is mostly wooded and travels steadily up gaining about 1700’. Originally a mining road along the Inter Fork of the White River, the route was converted into a trail when the area became a national park. It is the climbers’ access to the popular Emmons Glacier. Located in close proximity to the dynamic, glacier- fed White River, the original trail was frequently damaged by the river's shifting course. After the floods in 2006, the park elected to build a new trail that was no longer subject to the floods.

We’ll have lunch in glorious Glacier Basin with its wide meadows, and views up the Mountain of The Wedge and Mount Ruth.

Comet Falls, MRNP – Round trip about 3.8 miles, elevation gain 1250’

This is a relatively short hike, but there is elevation gain that you will notice and there are sections where the footing is a little tricky (steps). There is also a log bridge to cross. – It does mostly have a handle. Comet Falls are spectacular, the highest in the park.  The trail continues on to Van Trump Park but we will have lunch at the falls and head back.

“Follow a tumbling, churning, whitewater creek upstream as it thunders through a narrow gorge of glacier-polished rock on your way to a waterfall that drops 462 feet in three tiers. Admire numerous small waterfalls and cascades and two significant ones, all in less than two miles. This is the Comet Falls trail.”

Lower South Fork Skokomish River, Olympic National Forest – Round Trip 8.5 – 10 miles, elevation gain 800’

Note:  This is a change of date for the Oct 14th hike to avoid a conflict with the Invasive work party.

It is a change of hike to avoid the area near the Norse Peak fires. Full disclosure, I have not hiked this trail in my memory.

The hike follows the Lower South Fork of the Skokomish River reputedly initially through old growth trees. There are a couple of turn around points so we’ll decide on the trail where to have lunch and turn around.
