The 21st Century Challenge
Washington DC
I am in our nation's capitol working with the Sierra Student Coalition on finalizing our 2007 summer youth leadership trainings in Los Angeles and New Mexico. www.ssc.org These trainings provide a great opportunity to engage a new generation of diverse environmental citizens who can help us face the environmental challenges of the 21st century. After last summers training the first ever Los Angeles Sierra Student Coalition Chapter led by our Youth Coordinator Juan Martinez was established. These trainings are helping the Sierra Club look more like America.
More evidence of the growth of the Leave No Child Inside movement as the Economist published a piece that mentions our work and the growth of the movement http://www.economist.com/world/na/displaystory.cfm?story_id=8677221
In legislative news we have branded our efforts in California and Washinton the Leave No Child Inside Acts. In California we have the American Diabetes Association and the California Sheriff's Association as our co-sponsors and State Senator Alex Padilla is our author. http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/postquery?bill_number=sb_207&sess=CUR&house=B&author=padilla
In Washington we passed out of the House and Senate Education Commitiees http://apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/summary.aspx?bill=1766
Full speed ahead!
