Join us for a 14-day non-traditional adventure to see the wildlife, history and culture of Mongolia. This is a unique trip not offered by any other group. We will be using four-wheel drive vehicles to explore Mongolia. We will travel to Central Mongolia and the Gobi Desert, visiting remote sites and areas few tourists see. We will be using 4-wheel drive vehicles through the countryside for our exploration. The group is limited to 22 participants.
Our trip takes us to Hustai Nuruu National Park where you will see the rare and endangered Mongolian wild horse, aka Przewalski's Horse, Neolithic Ruins, and other wild animals such as gazelles, mountain sheep, deer and birds in this unique National Park.
You will be able to meet a Mongolian nomad family in the Gobi Desert and learn about their customs and way of life.
We will visit Karakorum, once capital of the Mongol Empire founded by Genghis Khan including the Erdene Zuu Buddhist monastery and many other historical sites. We will also travel to Bayanhongor to visit its ethnographic and natural history museums.
It’s on to the Gobi Desert, where we will visit a cave that was inhabited by people and animals 700,000 to 800,000 years ago. We will see a few sets of petroglyphs on our journey through the desert. We will also visit the Flaming Red Cliffs, where in 1923 New York Natural History Museum expedition leader Roy Chapman Andrews discovered the first dinosaur eggs and nests and many new species of dinosaurs. We’ll visit some of the largest sand dunes in the Gobi Desert near Hongor.
Also included is an Ulaanbaatar city tour that includes its Museum, Monasteries, Royal Winter Palace, a Mongolian Dance Performance and more. While in Ulaanbaatar you’ll stay at a 3 star hotel and have a free day for additional touring.
Otherwise, this trip is a mix of hotels and Ger camps. Ger camps are like staying at a modern luxury safari camp. You will have real beds, hot cooked meals, hot showers, and flush toilets. Our lunches and dinners will be prepared by a gourmet chef, who will treat us to restaurant quality meals while on safari in these remote areas.
We will be traveling in 4-wheel drive vehicles through the countryside. Most meals, all internal transportation, wildlife guides, park admissions, and lodging are included in the price of $4,200. International airfare to and from Mongolia is extra. Non-members add $100.
