Proposal #1:
The Sierra Club Atlantic Chapter urges you to vote YES on Proposal #1: Amendment to Allow Olympic Sports Complex in Essex County on State Forest Preserve Land.

- By voting YES: it would bring the facility already at Mt Van Hoevenberg into compliance with the State Constitution, and, add 2500 acres of new land to the Adirondack Forest Preserve.
- The Mt Van Hoevenberg Olympic Sports Complex has expanded over time onto adjacent lands that are constitutionally part of the Forest Preserve (which under Article 14 must be “forever kept as wild forest lands”). This amendment will bring the Sports Complex into compliance with the State Constitution.
- The offset acreage (adding 2,500 new acres to the Forest Preserve) will preserve & enhance the long-term wild lands of the Adirondacks. In addition to adding 2500 new acres to the Forest Preserve, 200 acres currently in the Sports Complex will be transferred to the adjacent High Peaks Wilderness.
