PS241 Stem Institute of Manhattan at Harriman State Park!

5/17/25 : We went hiking at Harriman State Park! We started at Reeves Meadow Visitor Center and reviewed our hiking plan on the map, leave no trace practices, and trail marker symbols so we would know where to turn and get on the correct trails. It had rained a lot the days prior, so it was a muddy hike! We trekked 5 miles through mud, up and down hills, to Pine Meadow Lake and back. It was really hot and sweaty, but everyone agreed making it to the lake was worth it! The kids stuck their feet in the nice cool lake, and some may have waded or swam around the edge a bit... We enjoyed a nice long lunch break at the lake. On the way back, we saw a huge black snake cross our path, so the kids excited to "check that off their bucket list" and were sure to warn all the hikers we passed of the big snake down the trail;) Many of the kids comment that "this is not Central Park - this is a real hike" and were very proud of their accomplishments!
