PS241 Stem Institute of Manhattan at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation

11-15-2025: We explored Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, enjoying the beautiful Fall weather. Using our Time Traveler Scavenger Hunt as a guide, we mapped out the route to find the items on our list, and circled our starting point and destinations on the map. On the way, a hiker in the park offered to show us an interesting old stone well from the 1850s when a family lived on the land. Then we hiked to Dancing Rock, which was on our scavenger hunt, and ate our lunches there. We then proceeded to find Bear Rock Petroglyph, and looked for all the carved images on our list, such as a reclining bear, deer and bear, turkey with feathers, stars, and snakes. We talked about the native communities who may have lived there, they they might have carved pictures on the rock, and why bears seemed to be important to them. Other things we found on our scavenger hunt included rusty metal objects, different types of leaves, birds, bird's nests, stone caves, and stone walls. It was a fun day, but we hiked almost 6 miles, so it was exhausting!
