By Karl Palmquist, Chair, Sierra Club New York City Group
Fellow Sierrans,
The winter season in New York City—with its crisp air, shorter days, and holiday gatherings—reminds us of the warmth and strength of our Sierra Club community. Our volunteers are at the heart of everything we accomplish as an organization, from leading our local, grassroots initiatives to expanding access to nature for youth and families. The dedication of volunteers keeps our mission thriving throughout the year, ensuring that both urban green spaces and natural areas beyond the city remain accessible to all.
Looking ahead to 2026, the upcoming NYC Group and Atlantic Chapter Executive Committee elections offer an important chance to help shape our direction for the year ahead. These elections select the volunteer leaders who guide our priorities and represent our members across the city and state.
In this issue, you can read about some of the exciting work driven by our volunteers in New York City. From the successes of our Political Committee to our policy-oriented efforts on state legislation, we are out in the community, always pushing for progress. Thank you for your continued commitment—and for all you do to support a more sustainable, equitable, and nature-connected New York City.
