Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission Meeting - January 8th
Colorado wolves are in danger from the livestock industry.
On January 8th, the CPW Commissioners will consider a petition from the livestock industry to halt any further wolf reintroductions. From a biological perspective, getting additional wolves on the ground is essential to encourage pairing, breeding and pack formation, which are necessary steps toward achieving a self-sustaining wolf population in Colorado. And , as informed by science, will help reduce the rate of wolf-livestock conflict.
Please email the CPW Commissioners asking them to deny the Livestock Industry Petition that seeks to halt further reintroductions. Ask them to support continued wolf reintroductions as mandated by Colorado law.
CPW Director, Jeff Davis, has recommended that the petition be denied, primarily because all the conditions demanded by ranchers have already been met!
Suggested talking points:
- CPW already addressed the seven conditions that the anti-wolf petition demanded, rendering the petition unnecessary.
- CPW has already expanded and improved conflict minimization for producers with more tools, training, staff specialists, and resources.
- CPW has developed a range-rider program, defined chronic depredation, and developed a grant to assist with nonlethal coexistence methods.
- CPW has collaborated with the Colorado Dept. of Ag and ranchers on carcass removal and developed a proactive site assessment program.
- Wolves are ecologically valuable and essential to restoring biodiversity and improving elk and deer herd health by stemming the spread of disease.
Email the Commission BEFORE the end of the day January 7, 2025.
