Sheriff Campbell wants to spend Sangamon County money to bring a mine resistant ambush-protected military vehicle here from Arizona. We do not want our community to be militarized and you can help spread the word about this issue by posting on social media and emailing the sheriff and your county board member.

Sierra Club's mission is to fight for safe and healthy communities — this includes safety from police violence. The war on drugs which has been an abject policy failure destroying lives and communities across the country and is now being used to militarize MY local sheriff's office? Dear Sheriff Campbell--

I'm writing to voice my opposition to Sangamon County purchasing an armored vehicle. This is not only a waste of money, but it's a bad faith effort on behalf of your office. Military vehicles are used during war times, are you planning to go to war with the members of Sangamon County? Because that's the message this sends. 

Every person deserves to live in a healthy, safe, and welcoming community, without fear of physical or institutional violence. I urge you to drop this costly plan which includes the transportation and housing of this vehicle. It is not needed and I do not want it here.
