The Los Padres Chapter of the Sierra Club serves California's Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. The Los Padres Chapter’s four groups - Arguello, Santa Barbara, Ventura and Conejo - encompasses a wide and unique diversity of natural resources. From our wilderness areas in the St. Ynez Mountains to the coastal beauty of "America's Riviera" we have a number of America's most special places.  Enjoy them with us and please help us save the special ones that are left.  If you need to contact somebody about a conservation issue, please get in touch with Jim Hines.

Physics says we’re in hot water

It’s a simple rule of physics--so simple it is easy to hear it and forget it. Now, during the hottest decade on record and in the wake and presence of climate disasters, it cannot be ignored. It goes like this: Hotter air holds more water vapor than colder air. For every 1 degree Celsius of warming (how much we’ve warmed the earth so far on average), the atmosphere can hold about 7% more moisture.
