People's Climate March

Sierra Club Maine was proud to organize six charter buses to bring Mainers to the historic People's Climate March (PCM) in New York City on September 21, 2014.  The size of the March was incredible, with more than 400,000 estimated marchers, the largest climate protect ever and one of the largest civil protests in U.S. history.

Departing very, very early on Sunday, the buses (three from Portland, one from Unity and Colby Colleges; one from University of New England in Biddeford; and one from Portsmouth, NH) arrived in New York in time for the start of the march.  As Sierra Club Maine Chapter Director Glen Brand was quoted in this MPBN story: "There are two kinds of power in this world: people and money. The huge scale and prominence of the People's Climate March is going to send a clear message to world leaders that people want them to work together to move forward on climate solutions."

Everyone who participated in the March was inspired by the creative spirit and power of so many people from all backgrounds and ages coming together in defense of our climate and to push for the necessary movement away from dirty fossil fuels towards 100% clean energy like solar and wind.

Sierra Club Maine is committed to building on the momentum of the March to organize for clean energy solutions in Maine.  To find out more about joining our Maine Climate Action Team, email maine.chapter@sierraclub.org or call 207-761-5616.
