Our Lower Eastern Shore Group's Zero Waste Team Chair, Cindy Dillon, is featured above with Mandi Wells of Ocean City's branch of Surfrider Foundation, after a weekly beach cleanup in Ocean City on July 15. Clean air/clean water volunteer protectors like them from Sierra Club, Surfrider, Assateague Coastal Trust, Maryland's Coastal Bay's Program, OC Surf Club and The Green Team work tirelessly to rescue natural places like beaches from the scourge of carelessly tossed garbage. Beverage container trash can be reduced by 90% if Maryland's General Assembly would finally pass the producer-funded, taxpayer-free Bottle Bill!.
That's why we urge you to look here to acquaint yourself with what we do and when we do it. Our Calendar will tell you when and where we are tabling, and the Environmental Legislation and Current Campaign Issues tabs will update you to our efforts to get the badly needed Bottle Bill passed. We came so close this year that we could almost taste it. Let's make 2026 the last time we need to tell our legislators that there is no downside to this bill.
On another note, Sierra Club's annual electionscome around again in November and candidates are being recruited now to campaign to be executive committee members in Groups and at Chapter. We urge you to consider taking on one of these openings. There is no greater satisfaction in volunteer life than that of working to preserve and protect our precious Mother Earth.
Another reminder: We will be at Coops-to-CoOps in Princess Anne, Somerset County, 31140 Peggy Neck Road, on Saturday, August 2 beginning at 9 AM. You can't imagine a more delightful Farmers Market. Vendors' goods are unique, delicious homemade lunch is offered for free, and the surroundings on this farm are as peaceful and restorative as one can imagine. Scoot to our calendar herefor more information and try it out if you haven't already had the pleasure of visiting this one-of-a-kind gathering.
We remind all to check out here GoGreenOC's efforts in making Ocean City the first ZERO WASTE RESORT in AMERICA! Yet another way to channel your desire to improve the healthfulness of our earthly surroundings.
Finally, watch for word in August's newsletters of our next in-person Group Member meeting ona date in September. Our June landfill tour and picnic in Wicomico County was terrific fun and very informative. Don't miss our next shindig!
Thanks for all you do for the environment,
Jacky Grindrod Vice-Chair Sierra Club Lower Eastern Shore Group
