Why Fight Line 5?
Enbridge pipelines that travel through the Straits of Mackinac, known as Line 5, pose the dangerous risk of a potential oil spill in our Great Lakes (Enbridge is responsible for the broken pipe that dumped 1 million gallons of tar sands oil into the Kalamazoo River). For this reason, the Sierra Club Michigan Chapter is a proud supporter of the "Oil & Water Don't Mix" movement. They've compiled a great amount of information, resources, and oppurtunities to get involved in the fight against Line 5. Webinar: Tunnel Explosion Risk
Enbridge is proposing to build a tunnel through the Straits of Mackinac to move oil and natural gas liquids. The tunnel is merely a delaying tactic to keep Line 5 running while the tunnel is built, which would take years, however this webinar asks the question, "Is the tunnel itself even safe?"
