Come sign the petition today or soon, at the locations below, before the October 21 day-end deadline.

There is a move to try to extend the October 21 deadline, since the petition process has been disrupted by outside forces, trying to stop our democratic process.

Background information

Earlier this year, the Ohio legislature passed House Bill 6, which makes consumers bail out two nuclear plants owned by FirstEnergy Solutions as well as two failing coal plants owned by other Ohio corporations. These corporate handouts will total $150 million dollars a year over the next 6 years and will be paid by Ohioans like you in our electricity bills.

We can still stop this dirty energy bailout through a referendum on the ballot. FirstEnergy has been circulating a fake petition to purposely confuse OhioansOhians named “Stop Foreign Ownership of our Electric Grid"- you can still sign the real petition if you have signed the other.

If this ballot initiative is not signed by the required 265,744 Ohioans before the deadline on October 21, HB6 will go into effect. The Referendum will put a much-needed halt to this hasty corporate handout and allow Ohioans to vote in November to make a better choice.

If HB6 goes into effect:

  • Ohio will have severely reduced clean power and energy efficiency standards, forcing Ohio to forfeit our fair share of the booming clean energy economy and destroying some of our best tools to address the climate crisis.

  • Good-paying union jobs in the energy efficiency and clean energy industry will be imperiled, and many more will never be created in Ohio.

  • All Ohioans will be required to pay for power plants that serve only some customers– one of the coal plants bailed out by the bill is in Indiana! This undermines vital protections that Ohio has previously put in place to ensure we have low electric rates.

The location schedule will be updated daily as more opportunities come together.
