Court of Appeals Allows Enbridge to Rush Forward With Construction of Line 3 Pipeline

St. Paul, MN -- Today, the Minnesota Court of Appeals failed to halt construction of the Line 3 tar sands pipeline, while Enbridge works around the clock, sometimes twenty-four hours a day and six days a week, to complete building in order to “beat the courts.”

Line 3 is currently facing multiple legal challenges, many of which are being considered by the Court of Appeals. If built, Line 3 would cross more than 200 bodies of water, including lakes, wetlands, and rivers, endangering freshwater resources and the lake country of northern Minnesota where the Ojibwe people harvest wild rice and hold treaty rights.

In response Margaret Levin, State Director of the Sierra Club North Star Chapter issued the following statement:

“This decision is bitterly disappointing. Indigenous leaders, organizers, landowners, and allies have stood on the frontlines for years to fight this pipeline, which would disrupt Minnesota communities, pollute our water, and harm our climate. Now more than ever, it’s up the Biden Administration to cancel this project once and for all.”
