The Sierra Club’s 125-year history is little more than a passing season when measured against the life-span of a giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum). Among the oldest organisms on Earth, some sequoias are up to 3,500 years old; this tree in the Sequoia National Forest has probably been alive for centuries.
