Millions of people poured into the streets on January 21 for what became a national day of resistance to the incoming Trump administration and its nationalistic agenda. With signs calling for everything from gender and racial equality to environmental justice, a new protest movement was born just 24 hours after the inauguration of Donald J. Trump as the 45th president of the United States. In some cities, such as Chicago, the crowds swelled to such a capacity that the marches had to be shut down—a clear demonstration that the percolating discontent toward Trump and his divisive campaign for the presidency had finally boiled over.
