Sierra Club Announces Second Round of 2020 Texas Legislative Endorsements

Meet the Candidates

This week, the Sierra Club Political Committee of Texas announced its second round of endorsements for the 2020 General Election. The first round, announced in February, included 37 incumbent House members. The second round included 17 candidates for the Texas House, in addition to one candidate for the Texas Senate.

“We are excited to announce our latest round of endorsements in the November general election, as well as one very important Texas Senate runoff election,” said David Griggs, Political Chair of the Sierra Club’s Lone Star Chapter. “If successful in November, these candidates could represent a tipping point for the long-awaited and sorely needed leadership Texans have needed at the Texas Capitol on climate action, clean energy, and air and water pollution.”

The Sierra Club Political Action Committee of Texas supports candidates for elected office in Texas on a non-partisan basis who share the environmental goals of the Sierra Club through their voting records and position statements.

For challengers, endorsements are considered on a rolling basis, and are based on their answers to our legislative candidate questionnaire and other factors, which may include their public record, past accomplishments, and the dynamic between their environmental stances and their positions on social justice issues. Incumbent endorsements are also decided on a rolling basis based on voting record and other factors.
