We advocate for strong salinity standards to protect Texas’ unique marine ecosystems from seawater desalination discharges. Unchecked salinity in bays and estuaries can harm aquatic life,damage local water sources and soils, and threaten the coastal economy. Setting clear and enforceable salinity criteria helps to ensure that marine desalination doesn’t come at the expense of our most productive aquatic ecosystems and the well-being of coastal communities.
