RENO ICO SNOW ADVENTURE DAY
SATURDAY, MAY 3
RENO ICO SNOW CAMPING EXPERIENCE
SATURDAY, May 3 – SUNDAY, MAY 4
WHAT:
We will meet up at the Ophir Trailhead on the Mount Rose Highway (431) at 10am, have a brief introduction to snowshoeing (pretty similar to walking), and hike .3 miles to a secluded area. At our destination, we will have a lesson and begin to build two to three igloos using ice saws and snow shovels. A group of Chickadees have been organized to entertain us as we work. We will break for lunch. Those who want to continue building and finishing the igloos will continue into the afternoon, while others will take a 1-mile round trip hike to a view of Lake Tahoe, returning to the igloos. Then, at about 3:00pm, folks will hike back .3 mile to the cars.
SPECIAL SNOW CAMPING OPPORTUNITY:
Those who want to experience spending the night in the snow under the stars in an igloo are invited to stay the night! This will be an unforgettable adventure – You will learn the basics of snow camping. We will get up about 8am on Sunday, have an oatmeal breakfast, take a quick hike to see the Lake, and then pack up and head back to our cars by 11:00. There will be a required Zoom pre-trip meeting at 7pm, Wednesday, April 30 for snow campers, to ensure preparation and safety.
