All ICO volunteers and Trip Leaders must take the Sierra Club Mandated Reporter Training (previously referred to as CARP: Child Abuse Recognition and Prevention) in order to join on a trip. The course is free. You can take this course online by following these instructions. After you complete the course, download the certificate and send it to Reno ICO Volunteer Coordinator Shanna Mae Slight at shannamae.slight@gmail.com.

We are also offering a Zoom one-hour Mandated Reporter/CARP Training on Thursday, February 19 at 7pm just for Reno ICO volunteers and Trip Leaders.  This is more engaging than the online course, and you will actually learn and retain more through the discussion with your fellow ICOers. Also, by taking this online course, your certification will automatically update in the Reno ICO Leadership Database. To sign up for the class, please email Rob at robschamberg@gmail.com. As of 2026 Mandated Reporter/CARP training must be completed every two years, which is a change from the past when it had to be completed every year.
