Reno ICO Teams with Nevada Urban Indians to Offer a Wilderness First Aid Course

This $400 course costs just $50 for ICO Trip Leaders, and aspiring leaders who will lead two trips by August 2027.

Reno ICO is grateful to our partner Nevada Urban Indians (NVUI) who is funding a 16-hour Wilderness First Aid (WFA) Class this May in Reno.

Michael Garcia in the desert with a backpack

This course is being taught by Michael Garcia, a highly respected HSI and NOLS instructor, dedicated to getting all folks out into the wilderness. (Note from Rob: I took Michael's WFA class and it was exceptional – It has enabled me to feel prepared to serve as “medic” on several multi-day rafting and backpacking trips.) Michael is not only a gifted teacher, wildly entertaining, and a superb actor, but he shares the values of Reno ICO.

The class will be scheduled on a weekend in May. Before you take this course, you need to complete a standard first aid class and a CPR/AED class.  Interested ICO volunteers and trip leaders may want to take advantage of these local first aid opportunities.

Signups will begin in February. The WFA class is being offered to trip leaders and volunteers from Reno ICO and NVUI for $50 which will include lunch and snacks. (A great bargain!) Scholarships will be available. Look for an article about this in the February Reno ICO Newsletter.
