Wilderness First Aid Course Scheduled for May 9-10th in Reno

This $400 course costs just $50 for ICO Trip Leaders, and aspiring leaders who will lead two trips by August 2027.

Reno ICO is grateful to our partner Nevada Urban Indians (NVUI) who is funding a 16-hour Wilderness First Aid (WFA) Class on the weekend of May 9-10th in Reno. While the expenses to put on this course are over $400 per participant, Nevada Urban Indians sponsorship enables us to provide the course to trip leaders and volunteers from Reno ICO and NVUI for $50 which will include lunch and snacks. (A great bargain!)  If money is tight, scholarships are available.

Michael Garcia in the desert with a backpack

This course is being taught by Michael Garcia, a highly respected Wilderness First Aid instructor, trained through NOLS. Michael is dedicated to getting all folks out into the wilderness. (Note from Rob: I took Michael's WFA class and it was exceptional – It has enabled me to feel prepared to serve as “medic” on several multi-day rafting and backpacking trips.) Michael is not only a gifted teacher, wildly entertaining, and a superb actor, but he shares the values of Reno ICO.

Before you take this course, it is highly recommended that you have a current standard first aid certification and a CPR/AED class.  Interested ICO volunteers and trip leaders may want to take advantage of these local first aid opportunities.
