We are so pleased to welcome Jean Lau in her new role as Volunteer Coordinator. Jean moved to Reno in June 2025 from the Bay Area and quickly fell in love with the incredible outdoor opportunities this area has to offer. Jean works as a software engineering executive at a large high-tech company, but outside of work, the outdoors is where she finds the most joy and inspiration. She loves hiking, biking, camping, swimming, yoga, skiing, and snowshoeing, and is passionate about sharing that enthusiasm with others, especially the younger generation.
Jean believes outdoor experiences can help young people build confidence, resilience, curiosity, and a lifelong appreciation for nature. Jean is excited to volunteer her time, share her experience, and hopefully inspire young people to explore, challenge themselves, and discover their own connection to the outdoors.
In April, Jean volunteered on the April 2026 Upward Bound snowshoeing trip to Chickadee Ridge. Jean and her husband Bo helped participants put on their snowshoes and learn how to use them! Most importantly, Jean and Bo fired up the MSR backpacking stoves and made hot cocoa for the many participants!
As the Volunteer Coordinator, Jean will be working with volunteers to help them get onto trips, get connected to our partner groups and help volunteers access training. If you are ever feeling lost in ICO land or are seeking more involvement, contact Jean Lau at igolf28@yahoo.com.
If you have a moment, send a welcoming email to Jean at igolf28@yahoo.com.
