Sierra Club Virginia Chapter Announces 2025 Statewide Endorsements
RICHMOND, VA — The Sierra Club Virginia Chapter is proud to announce its endorsement of Abigail Spanberger for Governor, Ghazala Hashmi for Lieutenant Governor, and Jay Jones for Attorney General in the 2025 statewide elections. Together, these leaders represent a necessary vision for addressing climate change, protecting our pristine natural places, and delivering the vast, robust, and affordable clean energy future Virginians deserve.
"After four disappointing years of anti-climate actions by the Youngkin Administration, Virginia is ready for real, sustainable progress on our clean energy future," said Connor Kish, Director of the Sierra Club Virginia Chapter. “Abigail Spanberger, Ghazala Hashmi, and Jay Jones are ready to lead Virginia toward a cleaner, fairer, more sustainable and more affordable future."
“I am grateful for the work of the Sierra Club Virginia Chapter to preserve Virginia’s natural beauty for future generations, and I’m proud to receive their endorsement to serve as the next Governor of Virginia” said Spanberger. “As Governor, I look forward to bringing people together to protect our Commonwealth and make Virginia a nationwide leader in developing clean, affordable energy that lowers costs for families, drives economic growth, and creates good-paying jobs.”
Hashmi echoed the urgency of environmental leadership at the state level. “While Trump is devastating our environmental protections and efforts to address climate change, I am running for Lieutenant Governor because Virginia must lead on addressing the climate concerns that face us and ensure that we protect our precious natural resources for future generations. I'm proud to earn the Sierra Club's renewed endorsement and to join its members in our shared commitment to protecting Virginia's environment.”
“I’m honored to receive the Sierra Club’s endorsement,” said Jones. “As the father of two young boys who will experience the long-term consequences of climate change, we must work towards a cleaner, healthier Virginia. In the Attorney General’s office, I’ll take on polluters to clean up Virginia’s air and water, protect against federal efforts to roll back environmental protection progress, and ensure that every Virginian has access to safe, clean water.”
The Sierra Club Virginia Chapter’s endorsements reflect its commitment to backing environmental champions who embrace climate action and a clean energy economy and have a willingness to work with communities most impacted by pollution.
