New TV Ads Highlight House Leadership’s War on
Clean Energy Jobs
Ads Target Reps. Upton and Rehberg
Washington, D.C. – Today, the Sierra Club launched a series of television ads highlighting U.S. House Leadership’s efforts to block clean energy jobs. The cable television ads will run in the Kalamazoo, MI and Billings, MT media markets for three weeks. The Sierra Club plans to run more ads in the coming weeks.
“At a time when working families are struggling to make ends meet, Rep. Fred Upton (MI-6) and Rep. Denny Rehberg (MT-At Large) are blocking clean energy jobs and investments for their constituents,” said Michael Brune, executive director of the Sierra Club. “Both congressmen have repeatedly blocked proven job creators in the clean energy sector, in order to keep Americans dependent on dirty fossil fuels – this catering to corporate polluter lobbyists at the cost of American jobs is inexcusable.”
The TV ad highlights that despite the thousands of clean energy jobs available in Michigan and Montana, Reps. Upton and Rehberg have repeatedly blocked proven job creators in some of the fastest growing industries in the nation. [e.g. HR 1, House Vote 147, 2/19/2011; HR 2608, House Vote 727, 9/23/2011; HR 2354, House Vote 600, 7/15/2011]
“Clean energy is already providing Americans with affordable and reliable energy – without polluting the environment or threatening our health,” said Brune. “A clean energy future beyond dirty coal and oil is within our reach – and it’s time for our leaders to stop living in the past and invest in clean, safe and renewable energy to jumpstart our economy.”
