Flint River Cleanup

Saturday, September 23, 2023; 8:30 AM

The North Alabama Sierra Club and the Flint River Conservation Association are joining forces for a cleanup on the Flint River followed by lunch! Some canoes will be provided along with life vests and cleanup tools. Dress to get wet and maybe a little dirty. Bring gloves, sunscreen and water. We will also need people to help clean up on land at bridge crossings and to help with setup for the food that will be provided. There will be shuttles to get you to the put-in and back to your cars afterwards. The river has not been cleaned up since before the pandemic so let's turn out in force and make this a great cleanup!

Lunch for volunteers will be served around 2:00pm at TGL Adventures, 332 B, Brownsboro Rd, Brownsboro, AL 35741.

Please RSVP at the link below so we know how many people to expect.

We Need You! (to Volunteer)

The local Sierra Club is an all-volunteer group and it takes a lot of people to keep all of these activities going for you. And we need your help. Every year Excom members roll off and new members take their place. There is probably something you could do. If you would like to give back, take a look at the list of open positions and consider running for a position on the committee. The committee could use help with all of the following: secretary, publicity, environmental education, water quality, membership. It does not require a lot of time and the work is not difficult. Note that you must be a current paid member of the Sierra Club to serve on the executive committee.

Please think about it, and if you would like to volunteer your time and run for an Excom position, please contact one of the acting committee members at the bottom of the email.

Become a Hike Leader

Would you like to lead hikes for the Sierra Club? We would love to have you join us! You can do most of the training online, complete a CPR class, co-lead a hike with a Sierra Club hike leader and then you can lead you own hikes! If you are interested, please contact one of the acting Excom members at the end of the newsletter.
