Tempe and Mesa Mayors Encourage Bold Climate Action!
(Arizona) - On Tuesday, August 24th , Mesa Mayor John Giles and Tempe Mayor Corey Woods engaged in a panel discussion on the work their communities are doing to address the climate crisis and the need for bold climate actions in the infrastructure and reconciliation packages in Congress.

Investing in infrastructure has the potential to produce jobs and make Tempe and our whole region more affordable and livable while tackling the climate crisis,” said Tempe Mayor Corey Woods. “I am grateful for partners like the Sierra Club and the city of Mesa for working together to invest in transportation, housing, green stormwater infrastructure, resilient energy hubs, and the clean energy economy. With support from the federal government and regional collaboration we can invest in a way that makes our region a better place to live and work for years to come.

Both mayors discussed the opportunities for expanded transit, electrification, and evaluating opportunities for a Civilian Climate Corps to employ young people and work to make our communities more resilient.

We appreciate the work the mayors are doing in their communities to help reduce emissions and to collaborate on programs such as expanded transit, and encouraging Congress to include important climate provisions on electric buses and expanded transit, electric vehicles, and clean energy in bills being advanced.” said Sandy Bahr, chapter director for Sierra Club’s Grand Canyon Chapter.
