Free Kayaking Event by Mississippi River Water Trails Association

The Mississippi River Water Trail is swiftly becoming one of the premier paddling and boating destinations in the world. To help build partnerships and share knowledge and ideas, we invite you to experience why it is such a magnificent destination for paddlers.  Please join board members of the Mississippi River Water Trail Association for one day to travel this majestic river and to collaborate with others who are interested in promoting and developing the Trail.  The free paddling event on October 3, 2015 will feature a lovely section of the Mississippi River centering on Hideaway Harbor Park. You will have the opportunity to choose a paddling vessel—kayak or canoe—that will be provided for you. For those who have never had any paddling experience or who want to simply enjoy River Time without having to command a boat, we are working with MRWTA board member and proprietor of Big Muddy Adventures, Michael “bigmuddymike” Clark, to see if he can offer seats in the Junebug 1 voyageur canoe.  The Junebug is a 30 foot hand-built canoe with space for up to 12 paddlers.

Lunch as well as boats, paddles, and life jackets will be provided. Meet at9:00 am at Hideaway Harbor Park.

Please dress casually and comfortably for a day on the river. Most people prefer to bring water bottles, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, shoes that can get wet, and the things that you generally want to be comfortable out of doors. Feel free to bring a dry bag or to put your cell phone in one that we will provide.  If you are more comfortable with your own boat (minimum 12.5 foot with floatation and deck lines), paddle, or life jacket, you are welcome to bring your own. No alcohol or controlled substances, please.

All river trips are subject to the river conditions and weather, thus the route itinerary may change or in the case of unsafe conditions, this event may be postponed to a later date.
