The Sierra Club Zero Waste team is working with the Minnesota Zero Waste Coalition to advance a future without waste. Two thirds of what ends up in our trash shouldn’t be there, and landfilling, burning or even recycling our trash is not the answer.
We need a fundamental shift towards systems of reduction and reuse. A zero waste future means we reduce waste at the source, redesign systems to support reuse, and conserve resources while promoting sustainability within our communities.
The Coalition is promoting three important pieces of legislation this session:
- 100% Electronic Waste Recycling (HF 3566 / SF 3940)
- Packaging Waste & Cost Reduction Act (aka Extended Producer Responsibility) (HF 3577 / SF 3561)
- Beverage Container Refund Program (HF 3200 / SF 3260)
