Great Volunteer Opportunities

SierraScape February - March 2002

Join a Committee

On our home page, you will find a list of the different EMG committees, including the recently revived Conservation Committee (see article). Think you might be interested in one, but you aren't sure what they're working on, or how you'd be able to contribute? Call the committee chairperson to learn more. Then consider attending at least one meeting or event to see if it's the right activity for you. You need not be an expert on an issue; concern for the environment is the first step. New members are always very welcome!

Newsletter Mailing Party Friday, March 29

Get a sneak peek at the next issue of SierraScape at the Sierra Club office, 7164 Manchester Avenue, located one block west of McCausland. We'll order pizza and beverages and have a great time as always. Starts at 6 p.m. Call Del Johnson at (314) 968-1246.

Office Volunteers

We'd like more folks to assist with tasks in the Sierra Club office and to staff our table at local events. Even a few hours a week would be a big help. For more information, please call the office at (314) 644-0890.

Public Speakers

The EMG has formed a speakers bureau in order to educate other organizations on a variety of conservation-related topics. Talking to other groups helps raise the public profile of our group as well. If you would like to be a speaker, please call McNeer "Mac" Dillon at (314) 862-6239.

Fund raising

As a not-for-profit organization, we strive all year long to raise funds in a variety of ways... and have fun in the process!

Soulard Mardi Gras Booth Sunday, Feb 3 & Saturday, Feb 9

You must be 21 or older to participate, as we will be selling alcoholic beverages, including Schlafly beer. Volunteers are needed on both days. For details, call coordinator Jim Young at 314-664-9392.

  • Sunday, February 3: Mystic Krewe of Barkus Parade (dog parade). Our booth will be on Lafayette near Soulard Market Park, which is at the end of the parade route near the Wiener Dog Derby.
  • Saturday, February 9: Grand Parade. Our booth will most likely be on Russell just west of Ninth Street, same place as last year.

(There will also be a traditional lemonade booth at the Earth Day festival in Forest Park on Sunday, April 21.)

Earth Day "Walk/Run for the Rivers"

An exciting new opportunity for walkers and runners to help the environment while enjoying Springtime in Forest Park. See article for details!

"Grab the Bag"

If you are tabling at an event, grab the green duffel bag full of merchandise at the Sierra Club office. Prices for each article is in the bag. For more information, call Gloria Broderick at (314) 741-4588.
