Each Spring the Sierra Club provides volunteer judges for the kayak and canoe slalom races through the rapids of Millstream Gardens Conservation Area on the St. Francis River near Fredericktown.

This year, the races will be held on Saturday, March 19 and Sunday, March 20. No experience is needed. Volunteers will be trained and paired with experienced judges for an up-close look at the action. Volunteers may come for one day or both.

See skilled boaters perform, enjoy a beautiful springtime setting, and share the weekend with fellow Sierrans. Call volunteer coordinators Jim Nyberg at (314) 725-0767, or George Behrens at (314) 821-0247 (after 6 pm only). Free car camping is provided in the nearby group camp at Silver Mines Rec Area on Friday and Saturday night. A sing-along may develop around the campfire.
