Trail Maintenance Workers We had a great day at Hawn today. The weather started out a bit chilly. But eventually the sun came up and it warmed up.

We had 12 enthusiastic workers. We split up into 3 teams of 4 and begin removing fencing within the park. The purpose of this project is to allow wildlife (mostly deer) to move freely through the park. Much of the fencing was forcing the deer to go out to the roads to travel where several have been killed by cars.

After removing the fencing we dragged it out to the power lines or Hawn Park Road. The State Park personnel will take it from there.

A special thanks to Ed and Ray for transporting us to the work site from the office where we left our cars safely parked.

The Sierra Club put in approximately 72 man hours on the project today.

Our next project at Hawn will take place March 20-25. The project may be clearing cedar glades or planting seedling. We may still have some fencing to remove but there will be plenty other projects. That's right a full five days with free camping sitting around the campfire at night and possibly a sing along. Or just possibly exploring the backcountry on day hikes.
