Over 100 Attend Sierra Club Event to Support EPA Clean Power Plan

On July 30, over one hundred Sierra Club supporters gathered at the Schlafly Branch Library in St. Louis to hear about the ravages of the coal industry on the Virginia mountains. Nick Mullins of Appalachian Voices shared his experience seeing his family property destroyed by mountaintop removal coal-mining. Nick is a fourth-generation former coal miner who now advocates for clean energy and a transition away from coal.

Chapter Director John Hickey explained the Environmental Protection Agency's Clean Power Plan (CPP), which would require coal-burning utilities to transition to wind, solar, and energy efficiency. Participants then made calls to Senator McCaskill in support of the CPP. People also participated in a photo petition and wrote notes to Senator McCaskill. At the end of the event we took a huge group picture to show that Missouri is ready for the Clean Power Plan!
