Oppose the Trans-Pacific Partnership

By Jim Turner

President Obama will soon submit the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), a multi-nation trade agreement, to Congress for approval. The TPP would erase limits on exports of natural gas for Pacific nations’ demand, locking us into the costs and dangers of more fracking, more pipelines, and more export terminals – leaving less capital for expanding the solar and wind energy industries.

Also, the TPP would entitle foreign corporations to sue our local, state, and federal governments for claimed lost profits whenever they feel hampered by government rules. This is a threat to environmental regulations and to to energy reform. To avoid costly litigation, our governments would have to step back from enacting needed protections. Already such claims have been filed against Canada, Germany, and Ecuador.

The TPP can be defeated, because populists are also concerned about erosion of labor standards and financial regulation. Please tell your Representatives and Senators to oppose the TPP. Contact Jim Turner at jimturner301@gmail.com or 816-982-1073 if you have questions.
