Central Florida Sierra Club is the local group of the Sierra Club, serving the counties of Lake, Orange, Osceola, and Seminole. Nestled under the Florida Chapter, which falls under National, our group is comprised entirely of volunteer leadership. This position allows us to work closely with pressing, localized issues and take on projects and policy work that is most important to our members.

The mission of the Central Florida Group is as follows:

• Explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth
• Practice and promote the responsible use of the earth’s ecosystems and resources
• Educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment
• Use all lawful means to carry out these objectives

A vital part of our mission is serving on the frontlines of local conservation issues. Some of our current priorities include:

• Sustainable development, including the preservation of the Florida Wildlife Corridor
• Science-backed wildlife conservation management
• Mitigation of climate change and building climate resiliency
• Protection of clean drinking water, managing water quality and quantity issues in the region

The Central Florida Group is currently offering multiple ways to get involved and build community. Check out our calendar of events for opportunities such as:

• Monthly education meetings, where we provide club updates and host guest speakers to share their expertise
• Book club gatherings, where we discuss both fiction and nonfiction environmental reads
• Outings, where we invite the public to come explore and enjoy the outdoors together
• Social events, where we build community by offering spaces to socialize and have fun together
• Volunteer opportunities, such as tabling at events, clean-ups, or invasive species removal
• Policy advocacy, providing opportunities to speak up at community meetings or engage in political outreach
