As the Angeles Chapter prepares to nominate their candidates for our upcoming Chapter Elections, we want to highlight some of our active leaders and the important work they do. Please take a moment and read all about Margee Hills!
I am Margee Hills and I became an active volunteer with the Sierra Club after I retired. Through the outings program and my involvement with political and conservation activities, I made a new set of like-minded friends who are interested in being outdoors and preserving natural places. I have held many leadership roles including Chapter Vice-Chair, Orange County Political Committee Chair, and Outings Leader. My first leadership role was on my group executive committee. I saw there was an opening on the ballot and volunteered by writing in my name – and it has worked out very well for me.
I became an outings leader and my group outings chair. I organized our group’s hikes, managed our leaders and recruited new ones. Then I became the representative to the chapter executive committee where I became involved with activities at the chapter level including chairing the Elections Committee, on the new office search committee, and so much more.
One of the activities that I get the most satisfaction from is being on the political committee where I help elect good environmental champions to office. I also helped with the passage of Measure PH to fund the Puente Hills Habitat Authority to preserve land in the Puente Hills.
I truly feel that I am making a difference for our planet. There is so much that needs to be done to preserve our environment and through the Sierra Club you can be involved and make new friends in the process.
