Endorsements

The Mid-Hudson Group Executive Committee (ExCom) evaluates and presents candidates to the Atlantic Chapter (New York State) for endorsement consideration. The evaluation process consists of a detailed written questionnaire as well as an interview conducted by members of the Executive Committee and active Mid-Hudson Group volunteers. For incumbents we look at their voting record on environmental issues. For new candidates we look for their views about not only the environment, but specific issues and projects important to the mission and goal of the Sierra Club. The names of candidates who receive at least a two-thirds vote of support by the ExCom are then forwarded to the Atlantic Chapter. Incumbent candidates can be endorsed based upon their voting record. (Note: Schumer, Hochul, Delgado, James and DiNapoli were not vetted by our Mid-Hudson Group, but rather by our Chapter or SC national.)

The Mid-Hudson Group coverage area for membership is established by zip codes that do not necessarily match legislative districts. When a voting district crosses into another Sierra Club group's coverage area, our group works with the other group to present a joint recommendation to the Atlantic Chapter.

We encourage you to support these candidates in your area in whatever ways you can.
Please look at the candidate’s websites for how best to do so. If we all take some time to encourage our families, friends and neighbors to vote, put out a yard sign, phone bank, knock doors for a candidate, and/or provide financial support, it will help protect and heal our environment.
