About Us

Thank you for visiting the online home of the Mid-Hudson Group of the Sierra Club! If you love the outdoors and are concerned about environmental issues, we invite you to join our Group, which is within the Atlantic Chapter of the national Sierra Club. We have approximately 2,500 members in Ulster and Dutchess counties, southern Greene and Columbia counties, eastern Delaware county, and northern Orange county. We'd love to add you to our Group. If you're interested in joining us, please click here.

We advocate for the environment on a grass-roots level. Our State activities are managed by our chapter staff in Albany; and of course, national issues are addressed by the Sierra Club from its headquarters in San Francisco.

Our group holds events, including Public Programs, typically in the Spring and Fall. They are free and open to the public, so we invite you to hear our speakers and to meet our members. We also have occasional outings and seek others to become outings leaders. Contact our Outings Chair if you are interested.

Our group publishes an online newsletter called Fresh Air which will keep you up to date on what we are doing and what is going on in the Mid-Hudson region. Copies are archived on this website and are also sent to members by email. We also have Instagram and BlueSky accounts, so please follow us on social media!

Members are encouraged to attend our online monthly meetings which are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm via Zoom. If you would like to join us, please contact our Chair by sending an email to midhudsonsierra@twc.com.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact our Volunteer Chair. For more information, we invite you to contact any member of our Executive Committee by sending an email to our Group's email address: midhudsonsierra@twc.com. Please specify in your email whom you wish to contact and your email will be forwarded to that person.

Our Group operates under the guidelines in our Bylaws. Read our Bylaws.

How the Mid-Hudson Group fits into the Sierra Club:
Atlantic Chapter and Regional Groups

The Sierra Club is the oldest grassroots environmental organization in New York State. We believe our open spaces, clean water, and natural resources should be protected so that current and future generations may enjoy them. Our state Chapter office is in Albany, where our Chapter staff work on the Chapter's priorities. The Atlantic Chapter includes more than 46,000 members throughout New York.

The Atlantic Chapter is comprised of ten regional groups, of which the Mid-Hudson Group is one. The Mid-Hudson Group territory includes the counties of Ulster and Dutchess, and parts of Columbia, Greene, Delaware, and Orange counties. We have approximately 2,500 members in the Mid-Hudson Group region.
