The Sierra Club owns and operates four backcountry huts in the Donner Summit/Lake Tahoe area. Each hut sits on property managed by the U.S. Forest Service under a Special Use Permit.
This site serves as an information and coordination hub for volunteers and volunteer leaders participating in the maintenance and upkeep of these huts.
The huts are managed through Clair Tappaan Lodge (CTL), which is operated by a private management company - currently Aperture Hotels - under contract to the Sierra Club. Virtually all hut maintenance is conducted through “outings” sponsored by Sierra Club’s Loma Prieta Chapter (LPC) Ski Touring Section (STS).
Volunteers are offered priority in next-season hut reservations.
