Greater Charlotte Harbor Group (GCH) of the Sierra Club was founded in 2006.
GCH members…
- Helped pass Charlotte County Environmentally Sensitive Lands Referendum. And sat on the Environmentally Sensitive Lands Oversight Committee.
- Mapped and flagged gopher tortoise burrows in County parks prior to County logging
- Negotiated best practices at Babcock Ranch development
- Negotiated best practices at phosphate mining sites
- Negotiated the “Coastal Compromise,” a compromise between builders and environmentalists which directed West County development.
- Endorsed and helped elect County Commissioners
- Helped pass a local Fertilizer ordinance
- Assisted in the County rejection of a development at Wildflower Golf Course (now owned by Lemon Bay Conservancy)
- Offered kayak, hiking and cycling outings
- Held barbecues
- Represented Sierra Club at tabling events
- Participated in the Charlotte County citizen planning assembly.
- Provided input on the Charlotte County Comprehensive Plan
- Our Founder won a National Sierra Club award.
