Message from Linda Smithe, Chair

Greetings, my name is Linda Smithe and I am honored and thrilled to be your new Loxahatchee Group Chair. I enjoy boating, hiking, and now activism. I have been a long-time Sierra Club member, but like some members, I was not regularly active. I sent in my dues, read the magazine, and occasionally attended a meeting.

I now realize that I missed a lot! I should have carved out more time for the Loxahatchee Group. You will not find a more dedicated group of people than this one. The work we do is amazing. We carry out Sierra Club’s mission every day to "explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth; practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources; educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment.”

Our leaders communicate every month with over 6,000 members, supporters, and friends. We organize outings with children and adults. We provide scholarships, attend government meetings, and interview political candidates and elected officials. We advocate for the environment as I hope you do, too.

I encourage you to stay informed by reading our Turtle Tracks newsletter every month, and I invite you to attend our diverse monthly general meetings that cover a unique topic every month. Please visit our website and Facebook page to learn more and sign up for action alerts. There is so much that you can do, even during COVID, from the comfort of your couch.
