Sierra Club Political Endorsement: Jacob Fletcher for Alachua City Commission

The Sierra Club Florida Chapter has endorsed Jacob Fletcher for the City of Alachua City Commission (Seat 2) in the upcoming April 8, 2025 election.

Our endorsement is inspired by Fletcher’s bi-partisan message that resonates with City of Alachua voters who share our deep concern about the effects rapid development is having on the City of Alachua and the northwest areas of Alachua County. We do not believe the City of Alachua is adequately prepared to address how traffic congestion and local flooding are affecting the environment and quality of life in Alachua.

We applaud Fletcher’s commitment to responsible, transparent governance especially as it relates to the expenditure of resources.  Refreshingly, Fletcher has prioritized ensuring the City of Alachua’s infrastructure supports sustainable growth–but not overburdening taxpayers.

Fletcher indicated he supports the Sierra Club 30x30 Conservation Agenda that is committed to protecting 30% of lands and waters in the U.S. by 2030 to meet the challenge of climate change and provide space for wildlife and communities to thrive. We agree with Fletcher’s advocacy for investments in allocating voter-approved Wild Spaces Public Places dollars to protect environmentally sensitive areas in Alachua.

With the election on April 8, Fletcher needs your support with door-to-door canvassing in the early evenings and on weekends. Phone banking and sign-waving volunteers are also needed. Please reach out to Fletcher directly via email (FletcherForAlachua@gmail.com) or by phone at 321.289.7650. Alachua County Democrats (https://www.mobilize.us/alachuadems/) can also facilitate direct support.
