Happy Holidays!

Sierra Club Catoctin Group holiday gathering Climate Friendly Diet 2024

Our holiday party on December 4 was a huge success! Over 35 people attended our get together in the garage at Attaboy Brewery. There was a vibrant spirit of camaraderie, as we recognized the uncertainties that lay ahead, but also expressed the determination that we can make a difference.  We had an educational presentation on eating for health and the climate. The emphasis on how each of us can make a difference by what we eat was inspirational.

On November 12, members of SCCG volunteered at the City of Frederick Food Bank. Volunteers provided clients of the food bank with reusable canvas bags to use instead of single use bags. These bags have the Sierra Club logo and say “Reduce Plastics One Bag at a Time”. While some clients had brought their own reusable bags, many did not. Providing reusable bags to the clients provided a way to reduce single use plastic and paper and to reduce the costs associated with bags handed out by the food bank.

Our December Executive Committee meeting is Tuesday December 17 at 7 pm. ExCom meetings are held via Zoom and are open to the public. Please join us! Click here to register for the ExCom meeting.

2025 promises to be a challenging year. SCCG hopes to foster a sense of community in the environmental community by planning outings and educational seminars in the coming year. We will be advocating to our local representatives and the General Assembly in Annapolis. Please join us as we renew our commitment to the environment. Together we can strengthen our efforts to protect the planet, build a sustainable future, and create lasting change.

Thanks for all you do!
