As Co-Chair of the North Star Sierra Club Chapter, I see the power of hard work and shared vision in our fight to protect Minnesota’s environment. With a new presidency on the horizon, our responsibility to safeguard natural spaces, combat climate change, and stand for environmental justice has never felt more urgent. This work is not just about preserving the land; it’s about preserving hope—for cleaner air, safer water, and healthier futures for every Minnesotan, regardless of where they live or who they are.
On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I am reminded of his call to build a just and equitable world. Dr. King fought to teach us that justice knows no boundaries—it is as much about protecting our neighbors as it is about protecting the earth we all share. Our work to heal the environment is an extension of his dream, weaving together justice, dignity, and the promise of a brighter tomorrow. As we honor his legacy, may we carry forward the same courage and resolve to create a future that’s not only sustainable, but a truly just world for all. “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
To honor Dr. King’s legacy, please consider joining a local event in your community.
And as always, we invite you to get involved in our North Star Chapter. Join us:
Sierra Club Connect: Learn about Frontline Communities Protection
Saturday Jan 25, 10:00 AM
Sierra Club - 2300 Myrtle Avenue Ste 260, St. Paul - RSVP
At Sierra Club, we have been working with partners to support the implementation of the Frontline Communities Protection Act (FPCA). If implemented properly, the law will increase and improve protections for communities that have historically experienced too much pollution, environmental harm, and impact to human health. This is part of our vision to realize a cleaner environment and healthier communities.
Please join us to learn more about this important effort and have an opportunity to take action on the campaign. Our speakers will share updates on the ongoing community engagement efforts: Evan Mulholland, Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy; Sasha Lewis-Norelle, Clean Water Action and COPAL; Monse Perez Barrios, COPAL; and Whitney Terrill, Sierra Club North Star Chapter.
“Sierra Club Connect” is a regularly-scheduled community event space to learn what is happening at the Sierra Club, across the environmental movement in Minnesota, and what projects or events need volunteers. Whether you are already involved or this is your first North Star Chapter meeting, all are welcome! Please sign up so that we can plan for you!
