At the last Degrowth team meeting, some exciting developments were put into train. There will be events, starting with a movie night, and building up to a summit for all to attend. The policy group is looking at policy proposals to support, starting with the Zero Waste and the Rise and Repair legislative proposals, and moving toward policies originating from the group; for example, how to realistically measure well-being without using GDP scores. The grief group is already talking about some outreach in northern Minnesota, and creating materials that could be used by people experiencing climate anxiety.
There was a lively discussion of Mr. Trump’s tariffs, and whether by reducing consumption, they could be considered a positive degrowth measure. Ultimately, the majority opinion was no, as tariffs can have a disparate impact on the poor, and do not really restructure the economy.
